Populations of 15 from 34 farmland bird species declined
between 1985–1989 and 2001–2003, 17 species increased and two
species remained stable (Supplementary Table 1). Species with the
most serious declines were Grey Partridge (Perdix perdix), Northern
Lapwing (Vanellus vanellus), Yellow Wagtail (Motacilla flava),
Northern Wheatear (Oenanthe oenanthe) and Ortolan Bunting
(Emberiza hortulana). The largest increases were observed in
Common Quail (Coturnix coturnix), Corncrake (Crex crex), Barred
Warbler (Sylvia nisoria), Lesser Whitethroat (Sylvia curruca) and
Corn Bunting (Miliaria calandra
