Chiang Saen Port, linking Chiang Saen and Chiang Rai in northern Thailand to Kwanlei and Yunjinghong in Yunnan Province, was developed in response to the Quadripartite Agreement. Chiang Rai is about 60 km from Chiang Saen Port. Chiang Saen is 287 km and 360 km away from Kwanlei and Yunjinghong, respectively. Yunjinghong Port has been earmarked for passenger transport, while Kwanlei is becoming a dedicated freight terminal. Chiang Saen port is envisaged to be a gateway to the northern part of the GMS and is expected to expand links to Thailand’s maritime ports. The expanded port can receive cargo ships of up to 300 DWT, with up to five ships at a time
