if this study was to follow the same methodological framework as Shaughnessy and Burger (1985) it could reconfirm the existence of van Hiele level 0 [...] The difference between this study's methodology and the methodology followed by Shaughnessy and Burger (1985) lies in the fact that here the aim is to describe the ways children express their understandings about shapes within and in correlation to a specific setting and not to evaluate children in order to place them in levels independently to the setting in which they express their understandings.
