Blood was collected from the coccygeal vein using the same landmarks as those described for terrestrial snakes (Hernandez-Divers, 2006), using one of twomethods. On day one, blood was collected from 45/98 snakes using conventional collection (Method one). Method two replaced Method one from day two of collection to limit the risk of lymph contaminating samples for packed cell volume (PCV) and total protein (TP) analysis through avoiding the use of forced suction (aspiration) to obtain blood. Volumeswere restricted to less than 1% of bodyweight (BW) (range 0.1–3.0 mL).
