1. Cut two green coconut leaves. Mature leaves preferably as they have stronger and thicker leaf veins. You may use dry coconut leaves instead.
2. Remove all the veins from those two leaves. Don’t take the smaller ones as they’re soft and aren’t strong enough.
3. Remove all the green leaves from the veins thoroughly with the help of the knife (sharp edges of shells could be used instead of knife)
4. Before you begin tying the veins onto the stick (handle), divide the veins in groups - 10-20 in each group. This will make your work easier and faster.
5. Tie one end of your rolled string tightly and very close to the end of the stick.
6. Put the first group of veins all around the end of the stick and tie the string around them.
7. Take another lot (group) of veins, lay it down on the stick and then roll your string 2-4 times tightly around it so veins are held securely onto the stick.
8. Repeat step 7 until you have tied all the veins onto the stick. It’s important to rotate the stick a little every time before putting each group so veins stretch out quite evenly around the stick.
9. Now that you have tied all the veins, keep tying the string around until you have covered the hairy end parts of the veins.
10. Cut off the remaining hairy end of the veins to make it look clean and neat.
