We have not yet done the simple things-to ask older people about physical intimacy and respond properly to clear allegations of sexual assault, let alone developed an understanding of and ways to navigate the much more com-plex issues relating to consent ant cognitive capacity. Just beginning a broader conversation that acknowledges the issues and does not discount the needs, desires, and rights of people with dementia for intimacy would represent real progress.
