KHON KAEN — Police said they believe the mother of an newborn child repeatedly stabbed and buried alive acted alone in the sensational crime.
Provincial police chief Jitcharoon Sriwanich said on Monday they have found no evidence that others helped Suda Thongdee allegedly bury tiny "Ai Din" in Waeng Yai district of this northeastern province last week.
The newborn boy was found last Tuesday buried alive after being stabbed 14 times. Police arrested Mrs Suda, 42, in the district on Friday and she reportedly confessed she had done it because she did not want the baby.
Her confession led to interrogations of others, including her husband and the father of the child. He also submitted to DNA tests.
Pol Maj Gen Jitcharoon said a DNA test also confirmed Ai Din was Mrs Suda's biological child. Results will be used as evidence to substantiate attempted murder charges, police said.
Police had questioned seven persons on the case and tried to wrap up the investigation and forward the probe to prosecutors this week.
Mrs Suda is being held at the prison in Phon district in Khon Kaen and has not requested bail.
