The prototype is powered by a 2,185 cc NGV monogas engine with multipoint NGV injection system which provides 68.3 kW at 5,000 rpm and maximum torque of 157.4 Nm at 2,500 rpm.
The prototype has four fully composite NGV cylinders with a combined capacity equivalent to 60 litres of petrol allowing the vehicle to travel up to 450km (based on city driving conditions). A major obstacle to the popularity of NGV vehicles is the availability of the natural gas itself, only a few petrol stations having it and drivers of NGV vehicles have to plan their routes around these stations or switch to their petrol reserves.
The NGV project has since its launch received a boost, with Finance Minister [Datuk Seri] Anwar Ibrahim proposing for the 1997 budget that local producers of vehicles be granted tax exemption on equipment for converting vehicles to use NGV.
