Two Portuguese street art and illustration artists will bring some Bangkok scenes to the Toot Yung Art Centre for one month starting Aug 23.
Inspired by Thai beliefs and legends, as well as ordinary everyday lifestyles, Akacorleone and Kruella D’Enfer’s “Distant Land” exhibition will be a blend of the two’s Thai adventures and view of Bangkok popular culture. All of the works were produced during a two-month residency at the art centre.
The central piece will be a revamped three-wheel vehicle normally used by local merchants to sell objects such as brooms, food or ice creams around Bangkok streets.
The vehicle, a moving gallery of objects such as T-shirts, bags, books and stickers will travel around Bangkok streets for one week before being placed in the centre of the gallery for the opening night to serve as the central sculpture.
The walls will be composed of several artworks produced during the residency, from light boxes inspired by local comic books, paintings on canvas, drawings and prints.
Both artists represented Portugal during the “Bukruk Street Art Festival” in Bangkok last year. They have also painted several walls around the city and will participate in the “Spooky Palio Street Art Festival” set for October at Khao Yai, Nakhon Ratchasima.
