This wrapper (Figure 5.1)can work in all classes where student are thinkers and researchers. As they work on their assignment, they take a few moment at each stage to record their thinking. Some teacher have found that the first time they do this, the responses are scant, but over time, students develop a better understanding of the process. With support, scaffolding, and feedback, they are able to add more detail. The dual purposes of this exercise-helping student to improve their thinking strategies and to develop good research skills-provide transparency for the teacher and serve to build and develop metacognitive abilities.
