After a 22 - year hiatus, the SEA Games once again return to Singapore in
2015. The city-state will host the 28th SEA Games as the region’s athletes
compete in 402 events across 36 sports from 5th -16th June. The 28th SEA
Games looks set to be a 12-day fiesta. More than 7,000 athletes from 11
participating nations will be competing in the Games.
Singapore had previously hosted the Games on three occasions – 1973, 1983
and 1993. The hosting of SEA Games in 2015 is especially significant as it is
also Singapore’s 50th year of independence.
Singapore’s selection as the host of the 28th SEA Games was announced in
2011 during the 26th Southeast Asian Games in Indonesia. Singapore had
previously been nominated to host the Games in 2007 and 2013, but they
turned down both opportunities.
