At the time of the survey in March 1998, the schools which already introduced computer education accounted for around
40%, 90% and 70% of the elementary, junior high and high
schools, respectively. The focus of teaching varies from
one school group to another, but the percentage of schools
which were “making positive efforts in computer education”
was nearly the same in all the groups, about one tenth of the
total. It is reasonably expected that the last few years have
added to the above figures, giving a chance for more schools
to start and get more actively engaged in computer education
programs
