As many different multimedia sources such as terrestrial,
cable, satellite channels are serviced regionally, and in-house
connectivity of DVD titles, games, video cameras, etc., are
available, consumers want TV to have seamless connection
with all these sources. Unfortunately, all these channels and
devices do not share the same specifications. Each channel or
each device tends to have its own encoding schemes and/or
its own transmission protocols, which sometimes require
trans-coding. That means extra cost to the manufacturers.
