4.1 Challenges
4.1.1 Uninvolved parents
The number one challenge for educators in all of
the contexts where the research was conducted was
absent and invisible parents. Educators were very
concerned about uninvolved parents, or parents
who are difficult to contact. Teachers explained that
there were some parents who they wish would come
to school and did not. As one teacher pointed out,
‘absent parents are the ones we need to see here
at school, as they are the ones we need to work
with together to help the child’. Often the children
who are struggling are the ones whose parents are
almost invisible.
