The excursion today, we will visit the temple of the emerald buddha image and the grand palace where is very important and beautiful rattanakosin. First I would like to tell you the history of the temple and the emerald Buddha image. The information is concerned about the first section: History of Watphrakaeo the second section the emerald Buddha image the third section the ubosoth and other surrounding building the fourth section the mondop the royal pantheon and the golden stupa the fifth section the monthin tham, vihan yot and horphanak and the last section the gallery the prangs and the demon guardian status .well Lets start with history of watphrakaeo or temple of the emerald Buddha image watphrasri ratanasasdaram know as watphakaeo or temple of the emerald image, is a royal temple within the grand palace. The grand palace was constructed by king rama the first in 1781 at the same time when Bangkok was built and took 3 years to complete and watphrakaeo is the oldes and the most beautifully decorated it also keep the emerald Buddha image ok now we are standing behind of the ubosoth and surrounding buildings this is the first group of building in royal compound this group of architectural building included the ubosoth where houses the emerald Buddha image PhraPhotithat HorPhraRatchaloramanuson HorPhraratchapongsanusorn Belfry HorPhraGandhararat and Lined pavilion first I would like to give information about the buildings which they are facing to us alright ladies and gentlemen now we are standing in front of HorPhraRatkoramanusorn PhraPhotitht the middle building is a pavilion in the shape of the thai crown decorated with glazed terracotta this was to house an old prang called phrapothithatpiman enshrined in this prang there is a relic of Buddha and leaves of a bodhi tree from bodha gaya in India under which the Buddha attained enlightenment horpharatchakormanusorn houses 34 small Buddha images dedicated to king of Ayutthaya and thonburi the mural painting inside this building depicts the history of Ayutthaya period painted by KhruaInKhong horphraratchapongsanusorn the building was dedicated to the kings of Bangkok period, is now installed with eight small Buddha images in different attitudes and each one protected with a seven tier umbrellas ladies and gentlemen, let move your eyes to the second group of building on the platform you will the great golden stupa the mondop at the middle next is the royal pantheon The great golden stupa is a large stupa located to the west of the mondop it was erected by king IV after a model of one the three large stupas at Wat Phra Si Sanphet in Ayutthaya. The structure of the stupa is of a circular base style commonly known as the Ceylonese circular stupa
Ok, follow me to this way We are walking around the Great Golden Stupa and in front of you is the Mondop. The moddop is used as scripture hall inside stands beautiful mother of pearl inlaid cabinet containing Buddhist holy manuscripts it was built in the reign of king rama the first There are statues of demons and human faces nagaguarding all the four doors around the mondop are four small pillars surrounded by elephant statues. The gilt pavilions on the pillars contain the royal emblems of all the kings of the present dynasty Model of Angkor wat is a model ofan imposing piece of Khmer architecture of the 12 century and is located to the north of the mondop this model was made because king rama IV wanted his subjects to see what the Khmer ruins looked like Well Shall we move down to his part,follow me now we are standing on the third group of buiding that included HorPhranak, VihanYot and HorMonthianTham Horohranak is located to the west of VihanYot Originally it housed a Buddha Phranak means alloy of gold ans copper the image was moves in Vihanyot but the name still remains inside the building are kept some ashes of member of the royal family VihanYot is decorated with Chinese porcelain and was erected by king rama III HorMonthianTham is regarded as an auxiliary hscripture hall inside the hall there are mother of pearl inlaid vbook cabinets which are use to keep Buddhist holy texts Alright everybody let’s move on to the platform again now we are standing infront of the rpyal pantheon the royal pantheon is located to the east of the mondop it is used for keeping statues of deceased kings of the chakri dynasty The phanommak located round the elevated platform on which stand the mondop and royal pantheon there are 18 of the them Ladies and gentlemen follow me to the next interstinh buildings now we are standing opposite the front of the ubosoth the ubosoth or the ordination hall which house the emerald Buddha image is located on the southern side of the temple ground it has a thee tieres roof with the gable ends decorated with a Vishnu on garuda design the exterior walls are also richly decorated with gilt stucco and colored glass mosaics near the base of the walls figures of garuda holding naga 112 inside the ubosoth beside the emerald Buddha image there are interesting objects two large standing crowned Buddha images about 3 meter high Ladies and gentlemen now I wish to address on the most important thing in this royal temple I mean the emerald Buddha image or phrakaeo is carved from a large piece of green jade According to a northern chronicle this image was first found in a stupa in change rai province in 1434 and was taken to Lampang,Chiange mai then in 1552 was moved to LuangPrabang and Vientiane for 226 years in 1778 during Thinburi period the emerald Buddha image was brought back to Thailand and kept wat arun for 4 years king rama the first removed from thonburi to Bangkok and it has remained at watphrakaeo ever since Now we are standing in front of the the temple ground you will see the gallery and the demon guardian status The gallery surrounding the ubosoth and other buildings which depict the story of the ramakien the paintings consist of 178 sections the statues of demon guardians there are six pairs of demon guardian statues standing at the gates passing through the gallery they standing facing the ubosoth meaning that they are guarding the emerald Buddha image evill spirts each representing an important character in the ramakien story therefore they do not all look alike for example the green one represents tosakantha or the demon king Attention please ladies and gentlemen I would like to sum up that I have expressed the information about the royal temple of the emerald Buddha image that concerned about the first section
