Avocado can be consideredas heterodichogamous, a special case of synchronized dichogamy with two morphs of genotypes with reciprocal flowering behavior(Endress, 2010), since the different avocado cultivars can be classified
based upon their floral behavior in two groups: A and B. In the
type A cultivars, the flowers open in the morning as functionally
females, close at midday and reopen the afternoon of the following
day functionally as males; flowers of the type B cultivars open as
functionally female flowers in the afternoon, close overnight and
reopen the following morning in the male stage (Stout, 1923).
