This research demonstrates a novel method for investigating the performance of the SAFI through the use of constructed riparian pools attached to a larger water body as experimental replicates.
The water in SA2(with a SAFI) is collected from SA1(source of water sample, served as control) while the waters in SB2(with a SAFI) andSB3(control, without a SAFI) are collected from SB1(source of watersample). Three pools (SA2, SB2, and SB3) operated as batch reactorsare excavated in the pond shore about 1.5 m from the water and arelined up in 30 cm intervals (Fig. 5). Each pool is lined with plastic canvases for seepage prevention.
