Upholding the Constitution – the judiciary is the guardian of the constitution. The court interprets the constitution. Neither the national government nor the state government can pass a law repugnant to the constitution.
Preventing Infraction of Law – the court performs the function of preventing the violation of human rights. Citizens can approach the court for protection before the actual violation occurs. The courts will issue orders prohibiting the violation known as “restraining orders” or “injunctions.”
