The objective of the present investigation was to identify and characterize the probiotic properties of lactic acid
bacteria (LAB) isolates derived from the freshwater fish gut and to select some as probiotics to fight fish pathogens, particularly A. hydrophila and Pseudomonas aeruginosa. In addition to that, isolated probiotics assessed against food spoilage and human intestinal pathogens, i.e., Escherichia coli, Salmonella typhimurium, Salmonella paratyphi and Staphylococcus aureus and uropathogenic E. coli. So resulted isolates could be used as natural agents having a dual role to prevent bacterial infections and spoilage during food preservation and simultaneously ensure food security and safety for human being.
