The Golden Mount is the main pagoda located within Wat SaKet . It was commanded by king Rama III to be built as a huge pagoda in the heart of the city in the same manner as the Phukhao Thong Pagoda in Ayutthaya, The former capital. The construction, however, went wrong, with the entries structure topping down after the base was put up. In the next reign, that of King Mongkut , Rama IV , the reconstruction was commanded , with an adaptation made on the old structure. The huge mould of bricks and earth was turned into a mount, with a pagoda put up on the top. It was named “BoromBanphot-the Great Hill” , but was commonly Known as Phukhao Thong, the Golden Mount.
