Cold shower too much for tourist on Phu Thap Boek

A tourist from Bangkok passed out
and was saved by health officials an hour after she took a shower in cold weather at popular
Phu Thap Boek.
A staff
member of the Phu Thap Boek tourism community
alerted
Wanchai Chayarom, the village chief
of Moo 16 on the mountain, about a tourist fainting
on Saturday morning.
The incident
took place
as temperatures
on the mountain in Lom Kao district in Phetchabun dropped to 4°C, the coldest this year.
The village headman tried to drive a pickup
to collect a health official at Thap Boek health office four kilometres away to help the tourist but later switched
to a motorcycle due to
heavy traffic on the mountain.
There was no word from the officials as to the cause of the woman's collapse
.
Lom Kao district chief
Somluck Yoknoiwong said the tourist was saved. He said she fainted
because she could not stand
the cold weather while taking a shower.
The tourism community
, which groups villages on the mountain to provide services for visitors, has no water heaters to serve
tourists.
The tourist, whose name was withheld
, returned to Bangkok with her family after she recovered
, according to Mr Wanchai.
Morning frost is seen on plants at Phu Thap Boek on Sunday morning.
The drop in temperature
to 4°C on Phu Thap Boek, however, was a delight
for other tourists as they had a chance to see frozen dew
for the first time this year on the mountain.
Located 1,667 metres above sea level
, Phu Thap Boek is a popular
destination
for tourists especially during long weekends when the mountain is flooded
with vehicles.
The government is carrying out a crackdown
on illegally
built resorts in the area because of damage to the environment
