In the future, Thailand plans to introduce its own high speed services (Bangkok Post, 2014), so perhaps the French model would be a suitable standard to which the state Railway of Thailand might aspire. It would take a large investment in both trains and infrastructure for Thailand to eliminate the differences and develop rail services to match those of France, but the benefits to the people of Thailand could be considerable if the cities of northern and southern Thailand could be brought within only a few hours’ travelling time of Bangkok.
