MATERIALS AND METHODS
Meloidogyne hapla stock populations were maintained in the glasshouse on tomato
plants (cv. ‘Rutgers’) in a potting mix:sand (sieved 6 mm) (50:50 by weight) growing
medium with Osmocote® as a fertiliser source.
Meloidogyne hapla egg masses from galled tomato roots were excised, washed and
placed in a 1 litre Schott bottle. Nematode eggs were separated from the egg mass with 0.5% NaOCl solution (Hussey & Barker 1973). The resulting inoculum was washed
through nested 150
