In Christian belief, the spiritual beings created by God called "angels" (meaning "messengers") were created good (cf. Gen. 1:31). Angels, however, were created with a free will like human beings and so were able to make good or bad choices. According to the Bible, some of the angels God created made bad choices, rebelled against him, and were banished from heaven as a result (cf. Is. 14:12, Luke 10:18, Rev. 12:3-9). Fallen angels are called demons (e.g. Matt. 15:22, Mark 7:26). (Learn more about angels here.)
