There are only few reports on MgO-based aluminosilicate glass-ceramic system [35] and [36] which have shown that these sealants are superior than BaO or CaO based sealants because of higher activation energy of crystal growth thereby possessing controlled crystallization and minimum chemical interactions at the interface. However this particular system generally yields glasses with relatively low CTE (∼7–9 × 10−6/K) which causes a high mismatch of CTE with the SOFC adjoining components (ferritic steel and YSZ) due to precipitation of low CTE-based cordierite (Mg2Al4Si5O18) phase from the glass matrix during heat-treatment under the SOFC operating temperature (750–800 °C) [36].
