Collector yards are holding facilities for poultry where birds are kept for variable periods of time ranging from one to seven days before re-distribution elsewhere along the market chain. Collectors will sell and buy birds from these yards to other traders and customers. Collectors are integral in the chain as the primary transporters of poultry. Trade through LBMs and along the market chain involves the frequent movement and mixing of poultry prior to entry into the market. Little, if any, biosecurity is practiced along the chain so live poultry movements poses a risk of disease spread (Sims, 2007; Mcleod et al., 2009). An understanding of these movements is critical to effective control.
