An environment-friendly thermal insulation material—binderless
cotton stalk fiberboard was developed from cotton stalk fibers
without resins and other chemical additives. BCSF with a density of
150–450 kg/m3 and a thickness of 25 mm were bonded by cotton
stalk fibers themselves during hot-pressing under a high frequency
heating. Based on the measurement of thermal conductivity of
boards, BCSF was an excellent insulating component for building
materials as wall or ceiling for energy conservation. Thermal
conductivity was found to be correlated with the boards’ density in
a power pattern. Since BCSF is made from natural and renewable
raw materials and without any chemical additives, it is environment
friendly and can successfully compete with other insulation
materials.
