A few years back, some local water suppliers start to provide water service via small PVC pipeline, using groundwater from northern part of the city. Nevertheless, the tariff is quite high ranging from MMK2,000-3,000/cubic meter. The problem of availability still exists due to lower groundwater level during drought season. The problem of water pressure fluctuation, due to changes in elevation as a topographical nature of coastline, has resulted in an unreliable system. Over pressure caused the pipeline damage, pressure drop caused flow rate problem. Furthermore, utilization of groundwater resources has raised the issues of sustainability and subsidence (sinking) of land resulting from groundwater extraction.
