Entire sites can be constructed and edited with WYSIWYG tools; hyperlinks can be made and tested, interactive forms, buttons and rollovers created and pages uploaded to the hosting Internet Service Provider. Flash and Shockwave files can be included as element on a page, but often they are used to create stand-alone pages or set of pages. They both use a traditional, time-line format for creating animation with the capability to script links to other pages, movies, Internet addresses or for sending mail. The advantage of using Flash and Shockwave for Web design is that they can be treated as ‘embedded’ files, or objects, within HTML. This means that they cannot be altered when displayed in a browser, assuring design fidelity. Flash, in particular, is favoured by Web designers for this fact alone.
