A computer aided instruction (CAI) model is presented in which the dynamic interrelationships between space and time is analyzed. The model provides a framework for the transformation of often unstructured and diffused time and space relationships into structured computer database relations. Historical field battles are used as a vehicle for communicating the functioning of the model. A historian interactively formulates his questions on the space-time aspects of a field battle. The simulated chronological progression of the field battle under investigation is graphically displayed on the screen of a micro-computer. It is envisaged that the model could aid historians in forming a better understanding of the relationships between space and time in a historical perspective.
