Petrissage
Petrissage (kneading) is performed with the palm of the hand and
the surface of the fingers and the thumbs. It can only be applied to
the fleshy regions of the body. A fold of skin, subcutaneous tissue,
or muscle is squeezed, lifted, and rolled in a continuous circular
motion against the underlying tissues (Goats 1994; Huber 1981;
Wakim 1976). It is particularly useful for stretching contracted
or adherent fibrous tissue and to relieve muscle spasm (Wakim
1976).
