& Boyle, 1999),
• Knowledge of the cultur algroup's decision-making process,
• Knowledge of culturally appropriate community resources
for health care referrals.
Beliefs and Values
• Valuing an individual's, family's, or community's ability to
determine their own health goals and health care decisions;
• Valuing an individual's, family's, or community's cultural
care meanings and expressions even if these differ from those
of the nurse.
Skills
• Using ethical decision-making models to respond to cultural
conflicts;
• Reexamining and evaluating one's own prejudices and biases
toward other cultures (Campinha-Bacote, 1998);
• Using authenticity in practice or being present and focused
when working with an individual, family, or community;
• Ability to advocate for an individual, family, or community.
