Because of these inconsistencies in field data,
two glasshouse experiments were conducted to re-examine the effects of pelleting on the establishment of clovers in acid, tussock grassland soils. The first experiment compared the effects of lime and the two most commonly recommended pelleting materials in New Zealand (lime or Gafsa-phosphate + dolomite; Hastings & Drake 1963) on two acid soils. The second experiment compared the effects of lime, lime pelleting, and inoculation level on a range of soils.
