ABSTRACT
This research was conducted with the aim of studying the following: (1) the structure and melody of music (2) use of training in khong wong yai and (3) the opinions of classical Thai music teachers on the use of Khong Wong Yai to play Phlengcha “SOISONE” in the style of National Artist KHRU PINIT CHAISUWAN as a teaching lesson for secondary students studying classical Thai music. The methodology was composed of document data collection and the request for learning to play Khong Wong Yai Phlengcha “SOISONE” from National Artist KHRU PINIT CHAISUWAN along with interviews conducted with Thai traditional music teachers and other people involved. The data collected were arranged in document form for analysis then submitted to qualified experts for verification and certification. The findings of the study are as follows:
The structure and melody of Phlengcha “SOISONE” in the style of National Artist KHRU PHINIT CHAISUWAN belong to a type of music that begins with Phleng Propkai composed of Phleng Soisone and Phleng Phung roi, followed by Phleng Songmai which is Phleng Songmai Ton Bo Ra Thet, followed by Phleng Reow which are Phleng Reow Ton Bo Ra Thet, Phleng Reow Khaek Bo Ra Thet, Phleng Reow Phama and finally, ends with Phleng La. All the notes are used in the musical notation, and the musical scale was changed to Phleng Reow Ton Bo Ra Thet.
In this study, the use of Khong Wong Yai to play Phlengcha “SOISONE” in the style of National Artist KHRU PHINIT CHAISUWAN, found that many formats have several of unique features and many important stanzas to play that can link to other songs.
According to the interviews with classical Thai music teachers, twelve of the respondents rendered concurrent opinions that the use of the Khong Wong Yai song,“SOISONE” in the style of National Artist KHRU PHINIT CHAISUWAN in teaching lessons for students of classical Thai music is highly appropriate because the aforementioned music is a basic, key music that can be used to train memory, precision and distinguish melody of music for the learners. At the same time, students can be taught patience and concentration with skills that can be applied for improving personal abilities.
