When planning storage places for hazardous chemical waste, the characteristics of the diffrent chemicals to be
stored and disposed of must be considered (inflmmable, corrosive, explosive). Th storage place should be an
enclosed area and separated from other waste storage areas (Figure 7.11). When storing liquid chemicals, the
storage should be equipped with a liquid- and chemical-proof sump. If no sump is present, catch-containers to
collect leaked liquids should be placed under the storage containers. Spillage kits, protective equipment and fistaid equipment (e.g. eye showers) should be available in the central storage area. Th storage area itself should have
adequate lighting and good ventilation to prevent the accumulation of toxic fumes.
To ensure the safe storage of chemical wastes, the following separate storage zones should be available to prevent
dangerous chemical reactions. Th storage zones should be labelled according to their hazard class. If more than
one hazard class is defied for a specifi waste, use the most hazardous classifiation
