Terrain Preprocessing
Terrain Preprocessing uses DEM (digital elevation model) to identify the surface drainage pattern.
Once preprocessed, the DEM and its derivatives can be used for efficient watershed delineation and
stream network generation.
The steps in the Terrain Preprocessing menu should be performed in sequential order, from top to
bottom. The processes to use depend on the type and quality of the initial DEM. Processing must be
completed before Watershed Processing functions can be used.
The objective of this tutorial is to walk you through each function sequentially, not to present possible
workflows. Workflows using the terrain preprocessing tools are discussed in details in the document
“Comprehensive terrain preprocessing using Arc Hydro tools”.
