Recent advances in photovoltaic (PV) technologies have
brought very promising opportunities for the utilization of
renewable solar energy systems. The power generation
performance of PV system can be influenced by random
insolation level, cell temperature, fault level of PV arrays
and the output voltage level. It is very necessary to track
and dispatch the power of PV system especially when it is
used to supply energy to random load. In this paper, an
integrated scheme for optimal power tracking of PV system
has been proposed, where artificial neural network (ANN)
is first used to predict the insolation level and then the
genetic algorithm (GA) is utilized to optimize the power
generation of the PV system. A optimal control module is
designed to optimally dispatch the power of PV system
with battery storage when it supplies power to a
distribution system with random load. Simulations results
have shown the effectiveness of the proposed integrated
optimal power tracking and dispatching scheme.
