The second example of applying the proposed expo-sure assessment framework is nano-scale titaniumdi-oxide (NanoTiO2) used in sunscreen lotion. The outcome of the frameworks is illustrated in Fig. 3b. NanoTiO2 particles are blended in sunscreen lotions because of their capacity to absorb and reflect UV light. Sunscreens containing these ENMs are already widespread on the global market; for example, more than 300 registered sunscreen products containing
nanoTiO2 are available in Australia (Mueller and Nowack 2008).
