Indoor environmental problems related to dampness and mould
growth were observed in flood-damaged homes after the 2011 giant
tsunami disaster in Japan. Through the questionnaire survey in
terms of time trends after flooded exposures, indoor poor environmental
quality and adverse health effect were positively associated
with exposures to dampness and mould growth after
extensive flooding. Persistent health and environmental problems
were recognized within six months after flooding and the longterm
effects of mould growth after flooding was observed at least
for one year. The changes of indoor environmental quality in the
flood-damaged homes after flooding should cause the increased
risk adverse health. Therefore, further evaluation of the effects of its
changes on the residents after flooding is required
