NaCl stress decreased chlorophyll content even at the lowest concentration (Fig. 1a
and b) and induced a slight increase of the ratio chla/chlb (Fig. 1c). Chlorophyll content
decreases were accompanied by decreases of chlorophyll fluorescence, similarly to what
has been described for sunflower plants exposed to KCl (Santos et al., 2001) or for other
species under severe stress (e.g. Genty et al., 1987; Epron, 1997)
