To account for baseline factors thought to be related to the risk of events, prespecified Cox proportional-hazards models were used to calculate treatmentrelated hazard ratios, 95 percent confidence intervals, and P values, with adjustment for geographic region, entry event (stroke or TIA), time since entry event (as a continuous variable), sex, and age at baseline (as a continuous variable).
