1-MCP extended vase life of florets by 1.6 days when the florets were held in DW (Table 5). It is considered that 1-MCP binds to the ethylene receptor irreversibly (Sisler et al., 1996). Cameron and Reid (2001) suggested that 1-MCP is ineffective when new binding sites are synthesized. Therefore, the effectiveness of 1-MCP is presumed to be small in cut dahlia flowers, which are composed of many florets at different development stages. Dole et al. (2009) reported that 1-MCP did not extend the vase life of cut dahlia ‘Karma Thalia.’
