In a bizarre move, China's chief of the State Internet Information Office Lu Wei said on Wednesday that China isn't interested in censoring information, but rather focuses on "managing" it. Lu explained that China blocks many foreign websites from its servers because they "aren't China's friends." Lu is infamous for his beliefs in protecting China’s “internet sovereignty.” The 55-year-old was named one of Time Magazine’s 100 most influential people in the world in 2015 for his power to decide what 650 million Chinese citizenss can or can't see. Since taking post in 2012, China has seen drastic decreases in its internet freedom, ranking last on a list of internet freedom ranks.
