This results in students’ passive behavior in class, poor scores on tests and especially their dropouts (Schmeck, 1988 cited in Felder and Henriques, 1995: 21) Moreover, instructors confronted by low test grades, unresponsive or hostile classes, poor
attendance, and dropouts, may become overly critical of their students (making things even worse) or begin to question
their own competence as teachers (Felder and Henriques, 1995: 21-22).
