Our emissions target is in alignment with the United Nations
Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) scientific
recommendation to cut economy-wide emissions by 40% below 1990 levels
by 2020 in order to stabilize atmospheric carbon dioxide–equivalent levels
at 450 ppm. Scarcity of natural resources and threats to ecosystems and
biodiversity are serious environmental issues. Recent events, from extreme
weather events, to severe droughts, to the decline in summer Arctic sea
ice extent, illustrate the severe consequences and devastating impacts of
climate change. These challenges demand fundamental changes in the way
society, including businesses, uses natural resources.
