Manchester United have an advantage in the race for ‘Cristiano Ronaldo-like’ Memphis Depay - because of Louis van Gaal.
Dutch legend Ronald de Boer claims the United manager’s relationship with PSV Eindhoven winger Depay puts him in the driving seat to sign one of the most sought after players in Europe this summer.
Van Gaal named the 21-year-old in his Holland squad for last summer’s World Cup.
De Boer believes their experiences together in Brazil will give United the edge over rivals like Liverpool and Bayern Munich for the £25m-rated player.
“I don’t want to say which club is more suitable for him,” said the former Ajax star.
“But if he goes to United he knows there’s a Dutch coach there in Van Gaal who knows him from the World Cup.
“That’s an advantage. He’s one of the biggest talents in Europe - he has everything.”
