That gossiping Internet birdie is singing some sensational scuttlebutt about Google’s possible foray into the travel app industry.
Dutch website Android World (h/t Engadget) dropped a juicy bit of gossip into the rumor mill, purporting that the tech giant was possibly working its way towards a travel app called Trips, which would leverage some of its various innovations into a mobile tool for travelers.
Word comes by way of users working with Local Guides, which is a way for travelers to make Google Maps more social.
Through that particular app, you can, for example, tout that new must-eat restaurant in your area for tourists.
Well, it seems users on that project had the pleasure of taking this mythical Trips for a whirl.
Now we can’t say for sure what this thing does or if it officially exists. But the report suggests that it would work in tandem with a user’s Gmail account. Trips would, if granted permission, cull the entire treasure trove of your emails and come back with your itinerary and trip details based on those missives.
From there, you get details on transportation in the area and things to do. It would be just one more item to streamline your vacation process.
If you want to see for yourself, Android World has some nifty screenshots of the potential app.

Also, the website states the Beta version of Trips is being tested, “by selected local guides from level 2 or higher who have registered for the test phase of Google Trips.”
As you might recall, Google furthered its presence in the travel industry with Google Destinations, which TravelPulse’s Donald Wood introduced us to last month.
