Various opening leads are possible besides the short talk by the discussion leader. Some classes have used short playlets or puppet shows to provide both the stimulus and relaxation of tension necessary to get an easy start to the conversation. Depending on the subject, suitable demonstrations, experiments or even competitions may achieve the same result, and other classes have used interviews, perhaps with a visitor, or informal debates or a period of question and answer. There is not just on way of leading a discussion and teachers should experiment with variations to find those most suitable to their students and to the purposes in mind.
