In intensive dairy goat farms, kids must be removed
from their mothers after parturition to minimize or
prevent the mother-kid link (Ramírez et al., 1996).
Colostrum sanitation is necessary in areas where diseases
such as caprine arthritis encephalitis are present
because colostrum is one of the direct means of transmission
(Guerrault, 1990). Pasteurization and alternative
methods (high-pressure treatment) of colostrum
hygienization reduce the colostral IgG concentration by
20 to 30% (Argüello et al., 2003; Trujillo et al., 2007);
thus, lyophilized or atomized colostrum is preferred
because it maintains the concentrations of IgG (Castro
et al., 2005).
