AA5052 alloy electrode has a wide potential window, showing
good anodic dissolution performance in the tested electrolyte. It is
reported that the hydration of the surface products can change the
process of anodic dissolution of aluminium alloy [15]. Compared
with the parameters (Ecorr 1.561 V, icorr 70.02 mA cm2) in 4 M
sodium hydroxide solution, Ecorr improves
to 1.482, 1.478, 1.481 V and icorr reduces to 14.46, 8.23,
10.03 mA cm2 in 4 M sodium hydroxide-30% ethylene glycol solution
containing 1 mM SUA, 1 mM ADA and 1 mM SEA, respectively.
The data in Table 2 show that the three dicarboxylic acids all
have inhibition effect and the ADA has the largest inhibiting efficiency
(88.2%). It can be explained by the interaction of Al3þ with
carboxyl group in the additives. The coordination bond is formed
between the carboxyl group of organic acids and Al3þ in the solution.
The formation of the complexes decreases the corrosion current
densities evidently. The two carboxyl groups linked by a
flexible chain with different carbon atoms have the different inhibition
efficiency.
